It’s a year of notable anniversaries here in Massachusetts – and in the realm of music, we’d be remiss not to feature the celebration of the beloved, iconic Berkshire music festival, Tanglewood.
Having just kicked off its 75th Anniversary Season, Tanglewood continues its rich tradition of presenting summertime concerts with their highly anticipated 2012 performances of musical guests and programs.
Annually drawing over 350,000 visitors of all ages, Tanglewood doesn’t just represent a classic music venue located in a bucolic area – it’s truly an experience; an enlightening introduction into the world of music; and, undoubtedly, a memorable account of family fun.
For families, young professionals, college and graduate students, and kids; with discounts, programming, and family-themed activities – Tanglewood has something for everyone this summer, and you can find it all right here.
Free & Discounted Tickets!
For young people 17 years of age and younger, Tanglewood offers free lawn tickets. Up to four free children’s tickets are available per parent or legal guardian, per concert, and are available at the Tanglewood Box Office the day of the concert.
For students, 18 years of age and older, Tanglewood offers 50% discounts on lawn tickets for Friday-evening Boston Symphony Orchestra concerts. Students can obtain their discounted lawn ticket by presenting a valid student ID at the Box Office on the night of a performance.
Family-Friendly Concerts!
On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, the BSO presents Tanglewood on Parade, a full day of musical activities for the entire family, capped off with an 8:30 PM concert featuring the BSO, Boston Pops, TMC Orchestra, and a fireworks show.
On August 25, 2012 at 2:30 PM, Tanglewood presents its annual Family Concert featuring returning artists Classical Tangent, a lively group of musicians from the BSO, Berklee College of Music faculty, and other professional organizations that explores Folk music from around the world. Activities for children include an instrument playground (beginning at 12:30 PM). Tickets for the Family Concert are free for children aged 17 and under, and $10 for each adult.
Weekend Activities for Kids!
For those heading to the afternoon programming on Sundays, July 8th & 29th, and August 12th & 26th at 1:00 PM, in the Chamber Music Hall, Tanglewood presents Watch and Play, an educational program designed to engage children in the day’s musical program with lively discussions about instruments, concert themes, and musical concepts. Tickets for the Sunday afternoon show are required to attend Watch and Play.
On Sundays at noon, before the afternoon concerts, and on Saturday mornings (9:30 AM) during the Open Rehearsals, Tanglewood presents Kids’ Corner, a kid-oriented event with musical and craft activities.
