Thinking about getting away, but don’t want to venture too far or out of state? Well we have good news for you!  You don’t have to travel too far, there are many hidden gems to visit right here in Central Massachusetts. 

Groton

Only 40 minutes from Boston, Groton is a beautiful historic town. This lovely gem is hidden just minutes from an exit off of 495. You can hike up the historic Bancroft Castle at Gibbet Hill and enjoy the sunset or grab a bite to eat at Gibbet Hill Grill. Whether sipping a fine wine or devouring a steak, Gibbet Hill Grill offers a romantic fine dining experience. If you need a place to stay, The Groton Inn offers custom designed hotel rooms for a romantic or family escape. Take a stroll through the NOA art gallery located on the premises or visit the Groton Inn Kitchen. Groton offers plethora of fantastic restaurants and another that’s worth checking out is Forge and Vine. Forge and Vine also happens to be conveniently located across the street from the Groton Inn. If you are looking for a different type of dining experience or some amazing Italian cuisine, you should check out Fihlo’s. Fihlo’s has a casual dining feel while still offering some excellent food. Groton’s historic downtown area is also a must see. While walking through the center of town you will see the most adorable small businesses. One of these being Lavender, a gorgeous florist that sells flower arrangements. Right across the street from Lavender is The Natural Market, a market that sells organic products. 

Hudson

Walk around the beautiful downtown Hudson to spend some time browsing adorable shops, or walking the Rail Trail path through historic Hudson. Romantic dining can be found at Less Than Greater Than and Kith and Kin. Or perhaps make it a family date at the Horseshoe Pub. Finish the night with a late night dessert from New City or Less Than Greater Than. If you plan to stay the night just five minutes away is a brand new Homewood Suites. Last but most certainly not least, Nan’s Rustic Kitchen and Market is a restaurant and market right outside of Hudson in Stow. Nan’s Rustic Kitchen and Market offers amazing locally sourced foods.

Worcester

If you are looking for a place to stay, the AC Marriott is a great option. Located in the charming downtown area of Worcester, the AC Marriott has a modern design and amenities that will captivate you. Just across the street, Cha Shu is a wonderful modern Asian cuisine restaurant, perfect for grabbing dinner. If you end up spending the night, Glazy Susan has the most amazing donuts for a perfect morning treat. Subsequently, a brunch at Altea’s Eatery will offer a unique experience. Altea’s Eatery specializes in brunch and is open seven days a week to meet all of your brunch needs. If you are a natural lover, immerse yourself in the outdoors while visiting the Blackstone River Greenway. This trail begins in downtown Worcester and has river views worth seeing.

Historic Concord

Enjoy a romantic fine dining experience by booking a reservation at 80 Thoreau, located in the historic town of Concord. Using ingredients from New England and French cooking techniques, 80 Thoreau will provide a sensational meal. Browse around unique shops or just take a stroll through downtown Concord. Located in downtown Concord, The Concord Cheese Shop could be an adorable place to visit. Here you can find the cheese of your dreams and even pair it with an alcoholic beverage if that is your cup of tea. Also downtown, Reasons To Be Cheerful offers marvelous ice cream that could be a sweet addition to your day. Or bring family and friends to take a winter walking tour of historic Concord, open to parties of four or more people with a reservation. Then you could end the night with a memorable stay at Concord’s Colonial Inn.

Westminster

Located in Westminster, the charming Old Mill Restaurant has a variety of offerings. From seafood to pasta or burgers, there is something for almost everyone at the Old Mill Restaurant. The rustic Old Mill Restaurant would make for the perfect date but is also family friendly, and they even offer a kid’s menu. Also located in the Westminster area, Wachusett Mountain makes for a lovely day out with the family or a romantic getaway. You could bring some snowshoes and hike the mountain, or enjoy a day full of skiing. If you’re tired after a long day at Wachusett Mountain, check out the nearby Colonial Hotel in Gardner. The Colonial Hotel has charming rooms and will be a perfect place to spend the night. 

Historic Lowell

Take your family and friends or your special someone to explore historic Lowell. Enjoy an eventful day full of shopping and fine dining. An attraction  with plenty of quaint shops and dining options is Mill No.5. Not only does Mill No.5 offer an array of shops to browse through, they also have a cute market. Continue the day at Western Avenue Studios. The Studio offers several amazing art galleries and a brewery, Western Avenue Studios is a truly unique destination. That next attraction to stop in Lowell would be the Cobblestones of Lowell. Whether you are making a casual trip to the Tavern at the Cobblestones of Lowell or the dining room, there is a wide array of options to choose from at this restaurant. Make the end of your outing one to remember with a scenic walk at the Lowell Riverwalk. If you want to stay in the area after your day in Lowell, the Sonesta Select Hotel would be perfect.
