Each summer Massachusetts comes to life with the sights and sounds of America’s favorite pastime. From the world-famous Boston Red Sox to the wealth of collegiate talent that converges on Cape Cod, wherever you go across the state there’s a baseball game for you to enjoy.

Historic Ballparks in Massachusetts

Take in a game at Fenway Park, the oldest active ballpark in Major League Baseball where the Boston Red Sox have been playing since 1912. Known as “America’s Most Beloved Park,” Fenway is a must see for sports fans. Take in a game during the season, register for a tour of the park, grab a drink at Bleacher Bar looking out over the field, and sample one of this season’s new ballpark eats.

Discover baseball history with the Essex Base Ball Organization. Each summer on Sundays at Historic New England’s Spencer-Peirce-Little Farm in Newbury the league plays competitive games following 1864 baseball rules, before the introduction of overhand pitching or baseball gloves. The teams represent historic teams from New England in the 19th century.

In Worcester, Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field is a historic baseball stadium that opened in 1905. It hosts the College of the Holy Cross baseball team during the spring semester and the Future’s Collegiate Baseball League team the Worcester Bravehearts over the summer.

The Cape Cod Baseball League was officially incorporated in 1923 and is comprised of ten teams featuring collegiate stars of tomorrow. The teams are all non-profit and games are free to attend throughout the summer. The teams are based in Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Cotuit, Falmouth, Harwich, Hyannis, Orleans, Wareham, and Yarmouth-Dennis. Over 1600 Cape Cod Baseball League alumni have played in the Major Leagues, including New York Yankees Star Aaron Judge and former Boston Red Sox players Chris Sale and Justin Turner.

The New England Collegiate Baseball League is comprised of thirteen teams across the six New England states. Four of these teams have their home stadiums in Massachusetts. The North Shore Navigators play at Fraser Field in Lynn, the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks at Vineyard Baseball Park (often referred to as the “Shark Tank”) in Oak Bluffs, The North Adams SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams, and the Valley Blue Sox at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke. The league held their first season in 1994 and continues to attract top college talent from across the country each year.

In Western Massachusetts, the Westfield Starfires belong to the Future’s Collegiate Baseball League and play their home games at Bullens Field in Westfield. The Futures Collegiate Baseball League brings together talented players from across the country to play summer baseball in New England. The league prides itself on their family friendly atmosphere making quality games accessible to a wide audience. Catch the Starfires in action from late May through August.

The Lowell Spinners have returned to LeLacheur Park in Lowell as part of the Future’s Collegiate Baseball League. The team gets their name from the many textile mills in Lowell during the industrial revolution. The Spinners run many promotions over the season and pride themselves on their fun, family-friendly atmosphere.

Head out to Polar Park in Worcester, home to Massachusetts’ AAA baseball team the Worcester Red Sox, also known as the WooSox. Opened in 2021, Polar Park has delicious, locally-inspired concessions, designated kids’ areas, and a convenient downtown location, making it a great venue for the whole family. You may even get to see Red Sox stars before they are called up to the major leagues, or while on a rehab assignment.

The Brockton Rox have recently been reborn as a Frontier League team, which is a professional MBL Partner League. The Rox home field is Campanelli Stadium in Brockton, which was constructed in 2002 and has hosted many events over the years, including special charity baseball and softball games.

Fun Fact: Former Red Sox star Jim Rice has joined the ownership team for the Brockton Rox and is passionate about keeping the team involved in supporting youth programs in the area.
