It’s been said that whoever claimed money can’t buy happiness just didn’t know where to shop. For those looking for something a little more creative than a trip to the mall (not that there’s anything wrong with that), here are five places to go for gifts. Shop well!

The Glass Studio on Cape Cod – Sandwich
It may come as a surprise, but the Cape Cod town of Sandwich is better known for its glass than its food, although the food is quite good, too. For more than a century, glasswork has been Sandwich’s calling card, a tradition that Michael and Keiko Magyar help keep strong today.
The Magyars’ Glass Studio on Cape Cod, located along Route 6A, offers a range of unique, handcrafted items, including bowls, candlesticks, vases, ornaments and other decorations. You can visit the studio and store or shop online. Order early for holiday delivery!

Winfrey’s Fudge & Chocolates – Rowley
The sign just about says it all, doesn’t it? Winfrey’s, which has North of Boston locations in, Middelton, Rowley, Stoneham, and Wenham, has come quite a way since it was started out of a basement in 1979. Nowadays, chocoholics can choose from 20+ flavors of fudge, 100+ fine chocolates, and seasonal specials.

Ann Brauer Quilt Studio – Shelburne Falls
The village of Shelburne Falls is home to many fine artists and Ann Brauer stands out for her wondrous works from fiber. Brauer has been creating quilts for more than three decades and now spins out larger art pieces and wall hangings from her studio on the banks of the Deerfield River.
Along with the larger pieces and wall hangings, Brauer also makes smaller works, like tea cozies, pillows and potholders. All of these crafts can be shopped inside the studio and gift-seekers can also order online from Ann Brauer’s Etsy shop.

Nature’s Closet – Williamstown
If you’re looking for something to treat the outdoorsy type in your life, Nature’s Closet in Williamstown is where you can find it. The Northern Berkshires store specializes in active wear, featuring clothing that’s comfy on the body and easy on the eyes. This independently owned and operated store carries well-known brands like The North Face and Patagonia, as well as more specialty items for all types of outdoor adventures. Plan your visit to the store or order online for curbside pickup or local delivery in the Northern Berkshires.

Wayside Country Store – Marlborough
Country general stores were once a staple of most New England towns. Wayside Country Store is keeping the tradition alive. First built in 1790, the building was moved to its current location in 1928 when Henry Ford purchased the establishment. Whether you’re in the mood for nostalgic candy, a collector of Byers’ Choice Christmas Carolers, hunting for that perfect Massachusetts souvenir, or just looking to immerse yourself in a historic shopping experience, make Wayside Country Store your next shopping destination. Online ordering with curbside pick up is available.
There are so many ways to shop local in Massachusetts. We hope you are inspired to check out one of our recommendations, or visit your favorite hometown store this holiday season. Find more information on shopping in Massachusetts here.
