Logan Airport is located three miles from downtown Boston and is easily accessible by public transportation, taxi, ferry, shuttle, and limousine services. A free shuttle bus marked “MASSPORT” stops at each airline terminal, the Airport MBTA Station on the Blue Line, and the water shuttle dock.

The MBTA will take you to all downtown points via the Silver line and the Blue line. Silver Line transport downtown from the airport is free of charge.

Island ferries are seasonal except where indicated by (YR). Only the Steamship Authority transports vehicles to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket Island. Space is limited; reservations are required and should be made far in advance. Reservations are not required for passengers, bicycles, and motorcycles. The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority operates trolleys, trains, buses, and ferries in the Greater Boston area. Commuter rail trains go as far as Lowell and Newburyport to the north of Boston; west to Worcester and Fitchburg; and south to Plymouth, Fall River, New Bedford, and Providence, Rhode Island. Bicycles are allowed on selected buses and trains, and on all ferries. The MBTA has also developed user guides for first-time Commuter Rail riders to help you get the most out of your visits to the Greater Boston area.

Amtrak provides service to Boston (Westwood, Back Bay Station, North Station, and South Station), Framingham, Worcester, Springfield, Northampton, Greenfield, and Pittsfield.

The “T” – Greater Boston’s subway system – operates throughout the city and neighboring communities through 5 distinct lines. Tickets can be parched at most stations, and most stations will have a staff member available to answer any questions you may have. Stations can be identified by a black T on a white circular sign.

All the major car rental companies have locations at Logan Airport, and most have downtown Boston locations. At most locations, the minimum age to rent a car is 25.
