MAY 2018

Dear Colleagues,

Last month, Massachusetts was proud to host the annual Discover New England Summit & Marketplace in Falmouth, Cape Cod. See details below.

Cape Cod also made a perfect backdrop for our launch of the Massachusetts Whale Trail. This partnership of nearly 40 sites across the Commonwealth is a great example of the power of collaboration.

In May, MOTT is attending the U.S. Travel IPW Conference in Denver on May 19-23, and participating in the Cruise Canada New England Symposium in Boston on May 30-June 1.

Thank you for working with MOTT and our partners to promote Massachusetts as a top destination for leisure and business travel.

By The Numbers

March Rooms Sold performance was substantially helped by two sporting events which brought between 10-15,000 travelers from out of state:

1. NCAA College Basketball east regional final in Boston 2. NCAA College Hockey Frozen Four tournament in Worcester

MA Lodging Industry Performance - March 2018

- Rooms Sold: growth of 10.9%; nearly 4 times the overall growth rate of US at 2.9%
- Occupancy Rate: growth of 8.0%; nearly 10 times the overall growth of US of 0.9%
- Room Rate (ADR): declined from March of 2017 by 1.6%; overall U.S. grew 3.0%
- Room Revenue: growth of 9.1%; overall US growth of 6.0%. Loss in ADR held back growth to Room revenue
- Room Supply: growth of +2.7%; overall growth of US at 2.0%
- Revenue Per Available Room (RevPar): growth of 6.3%. Limited by both the ADR decline and Room Supply growth

January – March 2018 Summary

Rooms Sold growth in MA (+8.5%) remained substantially ahead of the U.S. (+3.0%) and above both New Jersey (+6.6%) and New York (+6.9%) but below PA (+10.6%).

However, the decreasing Room Rate (ADR -1.1%) and Room Supply growth (+2.6%) continued to hold back growth in Room Revenue (+7.3%) and RevPar (+4.6%)
