Industry Performance - March 2018
- Rooms Sold: growth of 10.9%; nearly 4 times the overall
growth rate of US at 2.9%
- Occupancy Rate: growth of 8.0%; nearly 10 times the overall
growth of US of 0.9%
- Room Rate (ADR): declined from March of 2017 by 1.6%; overall
U.S. grew 3.0%
- Room Revenue: growth of 9.1%; overall US growth of 6.0%.
Loss in ADR held back growth to Room revenue
- Room Supply: growth of +2.7%; overall growth of US at 2.0%
- Revenue Per Available Room (RevPar): growth of 6.3%. Limited
by both the ADR decline and Room Supply growth
January – March 2018 Summary
Rooms Sold growth in MA (+8.5%) remained substantially ahead
of the U.S. (+3.0%) and above both New Jersey (+6.6%) and New York
(+6.9%) but below PA (+10.6%).
However, the decreasing Room Rate (ADR -1.1%) and Room
Supply growth (+2.6%) continued to hold back growth in Room
Revenue (+7.3%) and RevPar (+4.6%)

MOTT recently
launched the Massachusetts
Whale Trail This first-of-its-kind collection of museums
and attractions, whale watching excursions and historic sites and
tours tells the story of the Commonwealth’s connection to whales. The
trail is a major collaboration among Massachusetts tourism
organizations and local partners, offering visitors and residents a
new way to experience whales in the Bay State. For more information

New England Summit
In April, more than 400 travel professionals attended
DNE’s 23rd Annual Discover England Tourism Summit & International
Marketplace at the Sea Crest Beach Hotel in Falmouth. See

MOTT had meetings with 85 international buyers, as we discussed ways
to harness the growth brought about by new flights, new markets and
new tourism products. A special thanks to Cape Cod for its hospitality!

New
International Flights
Three new
non-stop international flights into Logan International Airport are
launching this month: Norwegian
Airlines has launched seasonal non-stop direct service route
between Boston and Paris, while Primera
Air begins year-round service between Boston-Paris and
Boston-London’s Stansted airport.
With the opening of the London Stansted gateway and the launch of LEVEL’s
seasonal service between Barcelona and Boston in March, Logan
International Airport now has direct service to 55 international
gateways.

Castle
Rock Premier
Filmed in Massachusetts, the new television series Castle
Rock premiers on HULU on July 25, 2018. The show is
produced by writer Stephen King and director JJ Abrams, and critics
are already drawing comparisons to acclaimed television shows Lost
and Twin Peaks. Set in a fictional town created by King, the series
is based on many of the author's works and features familiar
characters and places, including Shawshank Prison. Massachusetts

NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championships
May 26-28
| Gillette Stadium, Foxborough
Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots and New England
Revolution, hosts the 2018 NCAA Lacrosse Championships Division I
semifinals and final, and the Divisions II and III national championship
games. These championships represent the fourth and fifth time,
respectively, that Gillette has hosted the event. Harvard University
