JULY 2017

Dear Colleagues,

This week I attended the annual conference of the 2017 Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in the Seaport District.

With more than 7,000 business travel professionals attending, GBTA offers an insider’s look at how innovation, technology and partnerships drive the travel & tourism industry.

The meeting also impacted our state’s economy, with delegates staying in hotels, eating in restaurants and buying souvenirs, while venturing to Faneuil Hall, JFK Library and across the Commonwealth.

One of the new attractions we’re proud of this summer is the Amazing Journey of Dr. Seuss Museum in Springfield. Read the profile on Kay Simpson to learn more about Dr. Seuss and the Springfield Museums.

Thanks to your commitment, Massachusetts continues to be a global destination for tourists and business travelers alike. As always, we welcome your feedback on how we can continue to collaborate and strengthen the Massachusetts brand.

Savor the Flavor of Seafood

Seafood - one of Massachusetts' greatest and most beloved culinary assets - is a MOTT feature for the month of July. From light and crispy oysters at a hidden seafood shack to expertly seared scallops at a fine dining restaurant - and everything in between - foodies have good reason to flock to the Commonwealth. MOTT's seafood promotional strategy is a combination of paid and organic efforts designed to inspire and engage audiences to Savor the Flavor of Massachusetts and share those culinary experiences. Seafood festivals, a wide range of dining options, and signature dishes are just a few of the focus points. Highlights include a seafood interview series set to launch on the MassFinds blog later this month, and a real time, seafood focused Q&A session on Twitter (#visitMAchat) that took place on July 19. On Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram, make the most of those two cents by tagging photos and comments #seafoodMA. For additional details on seafood promotions, please reach out to Shannon Healey.

Sports

The MA Sports Marketing Office awarded 14 grants totaling $50K in FY17. These grants help support sporting events hosted all over Massachusetts. For more information on the grant program and to learn about sporting events coming to Massachusetts this summer, visit MA Sports Marketing Office.

Film

From the Massachusetts Film Office: Warner Brothers TV and Bad Robot are producing a new television series for Hulu in and around Orange, MA as well as New England Studios in Devens. Entitled Castle Rock, the series is based on stories by novelist Stephen King and takes place in a fictional town in Maine. According to Film Office Director Lisa Strout, this is the first TV series to land in Massachusetts in nearly 30 years. Learn about the Massachusetts film industry at mafilm.org.
