APRIL 2018

Dear Colleagues,

Each April in Massachusetts, we celebrate the beginning of spring alongside visitors here for the Boston Marathon, Patriots Day, the Daffodil Festival and other iconic events. The 5th annual ArtWeek goes statewide in 2018, and in our MA Spotlight we profile ArtWeek’s Sue Sullivan.

We’re delighted to welcome the Discover New England Summit to Cape Cod this month, allowing us to showcase Massachusetts and the region to 80+ international tour operators and US receptive operators.

Thank you for working with MOTT and our partners to promote Massachusetts as a top destination for leisure and business travel.

By The Numbers

MA lodging industry performance for February, 2018

MA growth in ROOMS SOLD of 6.7% three times the growth rate of the U.S. at 3.2%

Occupancy rate growth of +4.4% also substantially outpaced the growth in the U.S. of +1.2%

Room Rate (ADR) declined from February of 2017 by 1.5%

This loss in Room Rate held back growth in Room Revenue ( +5.1%)

Revenue Per Available Room (RevPar) grew by only 2.8% limited by both the ADR decline and the Room Supply growth of +2.2%

MA lodging industry performance, CYTD February2018

For the first two months of calendar year 2018 Rooms Sold growth in MA (+7.1%) remained substantially ahead of the U.S. (+3.0%) and in the middle compared to other northeast states.

However, the decreasing Room Rate (ADR -0.9%) continued to hold back growth in both Room Revenue (+6.1%) and (along with Room Supply growth of +2.5%) RevPar (+3.6%)
