Bewitching Seaport

Founded in 1629 as a small fishing port, Salem is now partially famous for being the home of one of America’s early authors, Nathaniel Hawthorne. His novels, which include The Scarlet Letter and The House of Seven Gables, were set in its quaint village. Most of the city’s 17th century and 18th century architecture still survives today, making it an ideal tourist destination.
