Convenience on wheels: The Music Wagon on making songs accessible for all

The Music Wagon, LLC is a mobile business based in Rehoboth, MA, offering various music services. Below, the team shares some details on their business and the importance of supporting local.

Describe your business

The Music Wagon, LLC was founded on 25 years of professional music education, performance, and music retail experience. Our knowledge and expertise combined with quality products help us “bring music to you!” We provide exemplary service with traditional small business values combined with modern convenience and safety.

What makes your business unique?

After working for other companies and growing up working for family-owned and -operated small businesses, our founder studied retail trends and customer needs. He concluded that customers want traditional small business values with modern convenience and safety. So, rather than open a traditional brick-and-mortar, The Music Wagon was born as a mobile business with an online e-commerce presence. We decided that the local store should go to the customer instead of the customer coming to the store!

What does your business look like?

The Music Wagon specializes in musical instrument rental and sales, repairs, sheet music sales, accessories sales, lessons, school, and educator services. Personalized in-home appointments are available to purchase products. We carry band and orchestral instruments, guitars, ukuleles, sheet music, books, and other gear. Home delivery is also available for online orders and rentals. If a request is beyond our service territory, we rely on prompt shipping services to get products to customers’ homes. We will even pick up instruments in need of repair and return them upon completion!

Why is it important to support businesses like yours?

It is very tempting to shop online, especially if products are sold at a lower price, but small businesses are there when something goes wrong and when you need expert advice or repair. When you shop with us, you help stimulate the local economy, which leads to increased employment and prosperity for everyone. We are then able to support the community through events such as fundraisers. Small business owners are also your friends and neighbors!

Do you want to say anything to your customers?

At The Music Wagon, we value long-term relationships over a quick sale. We want to know your name, understand your needs, and provide the products and services that fulfill those needs. You can expect traditional small business service with the bonus of home delivery. We look forward to being your partner in all things music so that together we can enjoy the benefits and joy of making music.

How has your business changed or adapted during the COVID-19 pandemic?

There were no significant changes to our business model because of the pandemic. Our mobile setup left us in a great place to continue providing products and services. However, home visits and delivery became socially distanced with masks and cleaning practices. Our pre-played instruments have always been cleaned and sanitized to stringent standards, but we added a quarantine period for those instruments as a safety measure. From Bristol County to the North Shore to just over the New Hampshire border, we provided free home delivery of rental instruments for parents whose children continued in school band or orchestra despite the pandemic!
