Dozens of Activities for Visitors and Residents to Usher in the New Year
“First Night offers a dynamic and diverse artistic showcase of what makes Massachusetts great,” said Nam Pham, Assistant Secretary of Business Development and Interim Director of MOTT. “First Night is a ‘Made in Massachusetts’ success story.”
Originally launched in 1976 by Boston as part of the nation’s bicentennial anniversary, First Night features family-friendly, culturally-rich, locally-organized programs. The Boston event inspired nearly 200 cities and towns around the world to create their own unique celebrations.
As First Night celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, organizers have declared that all Boston events are free to the public. These activities focus around Copley Square and Boston Common and include a variety of art installations, live music and dance performances as well as ice sculptures, light displays and fireworks.
In addition, First Day celebrations are fast becoming a popular tradition in Massachusetts, with cities and towns marking January 1, 2016 with a variety of cultural, artistic and outdoor events. Here is a selection of First Day activities.
