When relegated to magazine columns and simple fortune telling, today's mainstream astrology belies its power and ancient roots. Astrology is a mathematical description of constant cycles and patterns found in nature. Like metaphysics, it operates beyond the physical plane, similar to feng shui and yoga. Astrology is the first-known tool used to explore human personality and its strengths and weaknesses. The natal chart, which maps the solar system's influence on an individual at birth, contains rich insights for how and why we behave the way we do, why certain patterns keep reappearing, and what kinds of stories underpin our identities.
The objective of the workshop is to train the mind in perception through insight work, using lecture, self-study of our natal charts, and group work. It begins with the basics of astrology, and introduces Vedic astrology, the ancient system in India based on sidereal time, as compared with the more common Western astrology. Participants will analyze charts using a variety of methods, each offering different insights into our personality stories and our relationships with others. Discovering the lost wisdom of the ancient Yuga cycle of the ages from India reveals dramatic new perspectives about this current time in history. Learning about the mahadashas, we explore the planetary hill and valley periods of our life. The teaching comes alive through extensive group exercises and opportunity to explore the energetic influences on ourselves.
