Fleet Moves Dance Festival

After a successful pilot year in 2012, Fleet Moves Dance Festival will return to Wellfleet with five days of all-hours, all-ages activities. Created by a team of visiting and local collaborating artists, Fleet Moves programming includes daily dance classes, performances, social dance events, as well as outdoor dances created just for Wellfleet.

Fleet Moves Dance Festival is a collaborative, site-specific dance festival that will take place July 8th through 12th in Wellfleet, Massachusetts. The festival endeavors to create artist-driven community engagement at a grassroots level with a program of events that includes daily movement classes to foster somatic awareness, artist-led sensory walks, as well as custom-made performances in dialogue with the unique culture and landscape of Wellfleet.

The goals of the festival are threefold: (1) to construct a fertile creative space for artists to support each other through reciprocity rather than financial investment; (2) to create innovative cultural programming in a community without regular access to dance class and performance; and (3) to research dance as a tool for physical, environmental, and social awareness.
