The Lyman Estate was the warm-weather retreat for four generations of the Lyman family. In 1793 shipping merchant Theodore Lyman commissioned the famed architect Samuel McIntire to design and build a Federal-style house. The family enlarged the house in 1882 in the Victorian style and then remodeled it in the Colonial Revival style in 1917. the estate, with its thirty-seven acres of lawns, gardens, and historic greenhouses, offers an exceptional setting for social and corporate events, including weddings and private parties, corporate events and outings, business meetings and seminars, and holiday parties.
Tours of the mansion are offered the third Saturday of the month. Tours on the hour, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Last tour at noon.
The greenhouse is open year round. December 15-July 15, Wednesday-Sunday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. July 16- December 14, Wednesday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
