Massachusetts is home to an incredible array of businesses where visitors can shop, dine, and explore. Since March is Women’s History Month, we’re offering up a short list of places to celebrate women-powered businesses in Massachusetts: 

Greater Boston

Fox & The Knife (Boston) – This award-winning Italian enoteca, led by Chef Karen Akunowicz, is a must-visit for lovers of handmade pasta and bold flavors. The warm, welcoming atmosphere makes it a favorite for both locals and visitors. 

Tiny Turns Paperie (Somerville) – A beautifully curated stationery shop offering custom paper goods, unique gifts, and artistic supplies, all created with a touch of New England charm. 

Alewives Taproom (Boston): ‘The stronger the IPA, the better,’ is the motto of Allison Fisher, the brewer and owner of this High Street Place Food Hall establishment – which is one of 13 women-owned businesses in the hall. 

 

North of Boston

Pauline’s Gifts (Gloucester) – Owned by Pauline Bresnahan, this charming shop specializes in hand-painted gifts, including nautical-themed home décor and locally crafted treasures, perfect for a coastal souvenir. 

Salem Witch Museum (Salem) – A staple of the region’s tourism scene, this educational and immersive stop delves into the history of the Salem Witch Trials, with women at the helm ensuring its storytelling remains powerful and relevant. 

Twisted Fate Brewing (Danvers): Pick up some cans or sit and relax in this family-owned, majority female-owned nano-brewery. For a limited time, you can even enjoy Gateau de Carottes – a carrot cake inspired stout! 

 

South of Boston

The Foodsmith (Duxbury) – A cozy café owned by Laura Raposa, The Foodsmith offers delicious pastries, sandwiches, and coffee, making it a delightful stop for travelers exploring the South Shore. 

Break Rock Brewing (Quincy): Vilija Bizinkauskas is the co-owner and head brewer of this popular spot with a focus on community vibes and culture. Even the name Big Rock is a nod to Quincy’s quarrying history. 

The Well (Norwell): The Well is a gift shop with a huge selection of nostalgic penny candy opened by Melissa McNamara in 2023. Come for the sweets and leave with fresh flowers and unique, artisanal gifts. 

 

Central Massachusetts

Worcester Wares (Worcester) – Jessica Walsh’s locally themed gift shop celebrates the culture and history of Worcester through creative merchandise, making it a great stop for visitors looking to take home a unique memento. 

Lucca’s American Kitchen (Leominster)Jodi Davick’s restaurant is known for scratch-made fare and excellent customer service. Don’t miss the eggplant stack! 

Sweet Jane’s Designer Consignment (Worcester) – A destination for fashion lovers, this boutique offers carefully curated second-hand designer items, giving pre-loved luxury fashion a new life. 

 

Western Massachusetts

Dreamhouse (Turners Falls) – “Come hang” at this go-to brunch spot. Try the smoked salmon benny or fried chicken and brie sandwich. You’ll love anything that comes out of the Jill Fishman’s kitchen. 

Witch Slapped (Pittsfield) – A mystical shop offering spiritual supplies, tarot readings, and unique gifts, Witch Slapped, owned by Danieel Munn is the perfect stop for those looking for something magical in the Berkshires. 

Barstow Massage and Bodywork (Hadley) – Providing relaxation and healing through expert massage therapy, this woman-owned wellness space is an oasis for travelers looking to unwind. 

Cape Cod & the Islands

Butterflies of Cape Cod (Bourne) – Opening in late spring, you’ll want to get this butterfly sanctuary on your list.  The sanctuary is a place of respite and learning, all under the guidance of a Anne Morse and her husband – both committed to conservation and sustainability. 

Sunbird Provisions (Orleans) – A vibrant café known for fresh, locally sourced dishes and a laid-back atmosphere, making it a go-to spot for breakfast or lunch while exploring the Cape, owned by J’aime and Christian Sparrow. 

CONRADO (Martha’s Vineyard) – Fashion designer Angela Sison owns the Conrado brand, studio, and shop. You don’t want to miss the chance to experience beautiful clothing, made from repurposed fabrics into a wide array of clothing including jumpsuits and dresses.
