It’s no secret that Massachusetts is a sports-crazy state. With passionate and knowledgeable fans, iconic annual sporting events, legendary professional sports franchises who have won dozens of championships, over 100 colleges and universities within all collegiate divisions, and the birthplace of basketball and volleyball, we’ve got it all! 

Here’s a sampling of sporting events to look forward to in 2024! This is far from an exhaustive list, as there’s a multitude of professional, collegiate, and amateur sports to enjoy across Massachusetts.  

 

January 

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame showcases rising basketball talent at its annual Spalding HoopHall Classic. 

January 11-15, Blake Arena at Springfield College, Springfield 

 

February  

Professional Women’s Hockey League Boston plays five home games in February as part of their inaugural season. 

Five dates in February, Tsongas Arena, Lowell 

 

March 

The New England Revolution (Major League Soccer) hold their regular season home opener.  

March 3, Gillette Stadium, Foxboro  

 

NCAA Division I Winter Sports Championships abound in March, including the Indoor Track and Field Championship, Men’s Basketball East Regional Championship, and the Men’s Ice Hockey East Regional Championship

April

Worcester Red Sox opening day takes place at Polar Park! 

April 2, Worcester 

 

The Boston Red Sox play at Fenway Park, the oldest ballpark in the country. Here we see home plate from the third base line stands.

Red Sox opening day is always a day game. This year, all fans will receive a pin to honor the late Red Sox legend Tim Wakefield and a schedule magnet.

The Boston Marathon occurs on Patriots’ Day! 

April 15, Hopkinton, Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline, and Boston 

 

The Springfield Thunderbirds hockey team wrap up their regular season against the Hartford Wolf Pack, featuring a pregame block party and a celebration of Fan Appreciation Weekend. 

April 20, MassMutual Center, Springfield 

 

May 

The Boston Women’s Football Renegades open their home schedule for the 2024 season against the Alabama Fire.  

May 4, Harry della Russo Stadium, Revere 

 

The New England Freejacks rugby team host the Chicago Hounds in the height of the regular season, and the day also features an International Festival.  

May 5, Veterans Memorial Stadium, Quincy 

 

The Worcester Bravehearts baseball team kick-off their home schedule versus the Westfield Starfires.  

May 25, Fitton Field, Worcester 

 

June 

The sensation that is the Savannah Bananas are coming to Fenway Park! 

June 8, Fenway Park, Boston 

 

The Ironman 70.3 returns to beautiful Western Massachusetts: swim, bike and run against the best in this grueling competition.  

June 9, Springfield Area

Hooplandia, a three-on-three basketball tournament, returns to take over the Eastern States Exposition grounds! 

June 21-23, West Springfield 

 

July

The iconic Cape Cod Baseball League is in the full swing of things in July.  

June 15 – August 12, Ten Team Locations, Cape Cod 

 

August 

The 52nd  running of the iconic 7.1 mile Asics Falmouth Road Race takes place during the dog days of August.

September 

The New England Patriots open their home schedule in September!

October 

Both the Bruins and Celtics open their regular seasons in the month of October!

Rowers compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts, rowing long boats underneath a stone bridge.

The Head of the Charles Regatta originated in 1965, and brings together 11,000 rowers and tens of thousands of spectators amidst the scenic Charles River and New England fall foliage.  

October 18-20, Charles River, Boston/Cambridge 

 

November 

The Thanksgiving Day football game is a long-standing tradition at virtually every Massachusetts high school that brings out students, alumni, and local residents to cheer on their team against their biggest rival. Many of these rivalries go back more than 100 years.  

November 28, All Across Massachusetts 

 

December 

The Wasabi Fenway Bowl features teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and the American Athletic Conference, and brings the excitement of post-season college football to New England.
