The holidays are upon us and now is a good time to hunt for that perfect Christmas tree, holiday wreaths and outdoor decorations. When you buy from a local farm or family-business in your area, you help support the My Local MA campaign to help family-owned farms and small businesses.

Massachusetts’ 265 Christmas tree farms contribute $3.5 million to the local economy, according to the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources.

Here is a selection of local tree farms throughout Massachusetts to consider for your holiday needs. Happy Holidays.

Marini Farm Christmas on the Hill/ Ipswich, MA

Marini Farm has been owned by the Marini family for three generations with a wide selection of pre-cut trees including Fraser Fir and Balsam Fir. Along with trees you’ll find decorated and undecorated wreaths for sale and wreath decorating parties where you can learn how to decorate your own. The Marini farm stand is also open for the Christmas season with a nice selection of fresh baked goods and more.

Boston Christmas Trees/Allston, MA

Founded in 1969, Boston Christmas Trees is a family-run business serving greater Boston. Securing the perfect tree can be a challenge in urban areas, but Boston Christmas Trees makes it easy by offering next-day delivery to your house as well as a standard pickup service. They’ve been working with some of the same farmers for four generations and always strive to provide the highest quality trees to the Greater Boston area. Opening day is November 29, so check out their website and pick your tree.

Chestnut Mountain Christmas Tree Farm/ Hatfield, MA

Chestnut Mountain Christmas Tree Farm is conveniently located in Hatfield in Western Massachusetts, an easily accessible destination for the nearby communities. Located on 130 acres of land that was originally used as a tobacco plantation, Chestnut Mountain has been a Christmas tree farm for 40 years. The Schrader family plants 3000 new trees every year so it can offer a wide selection to customers year after year.

Sleighbell Christmas Tree Farm and Gift Shop/ Sutton MA

Sleighbell Christmas Tree Farm has been open since 1987 and has a large variety of diverse types of trees for your preference. The farm offers a “choose and cut” service, meaning you go through their land and cut the tree yourself. If you are looking for a hands-on tree experience for the whole family, this is the place to do it.

Mistletoe Acres/ East Bridgewater, MA
Mistletoe Acres was opened by the Wilson family in 2012 and currently has 7,000 trees growing in its nursery and across 30 acres of land. They offer a “choice and cut” service as well as pre-cut options. Other services include free tree-shaking, double-sided wreaths, firewood and more. Families with young children, be sure to go on December 5 for the annual visit with Santa himself.

Bunker Tree Farm/ West Falmouth, Cape Cod

Bunker Tree Farm has been run by the Bunker family for three generations. They offer a “choose and cut” service and can flag your favorite tree during the week and come back during the weekend to cut it. The farm opened Thanksgiving weekend and is ready to welcome you.

These six farms represent just a sampling of where you can buy your trees this holiday season, but the list does not end there. Check out the Massachusetts Department of Agriculture Resources for a list of over 250 farms, and click here for a map of those farms across the state.
