Massachusetts is a great place to take a golfing vacation with your buddies because of the marvelous weather and the assortment of excellent golf courses. It is also a beautiful place to go Overlanding while you’re on your golfing trip.
For golfers who love to get in 18 holes while they travel, the state’s courses provide plenty of options. From seaside layouts to courses that have hosted professional championships, Massachusetts offers tons of splendid options for the traveling party who can’t wait to get to the first tee.
Here are three courses that are well worth your time and have the conveniences that can entertain large groups of golf lovers.
Pinehills Golf Club

A stone’s throw from Boston is the gorgeous Pinehills Golf Club. Featuring two incredibly decadent golf courses, Pinehills is one of the top golfing destinations in all of Massachusetts. Widely considered by golfing magazines, such as Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, as one of the best places to play in New England, Pinehills offers visitors two spectacular options for golf. First, there is the Nicklaus course, designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Immaculately manicured, the Nicklaus layout is secluded and offered a delightful challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
The Jones course, designed by famous course architect Rees Jones, is another option. The Jones course offers stunning views and some of the best golf you can find anywhere in the state. Let’s talk about the amenities at Pinehills. Simply put, the club has some of the best facilities in the United States. Rated by Golf Advisor as one of the Top 10 Courses in America for Off-Course Amenities, Pinehills has an elite practice facility with four pristine putting greens, and a massive two-way range that gives golfers plenty of room to get warmed up for their round.
Next to the Pinehills Club, there is the Mirbeau Inn & Spa if you need a place to stay or be pampered. The inn also features a terrific restaurant, overlooking the 18th green on the Jones course, that can accommodate large dining parties.
With fantastic golf and first-rate amenities, the Pinehills Golf Club should be at the top of your list when planning your Massachusetts golf getaway.
Taconic Golf Club

Located in the Berkshire Mountains on the Williams College campus in western Massachusetts, the Taconic Golf Club is an absolute marvel with incredible course architecture that will have you immediately wanting to hit the first tee again once your round ends. One of the top collegiate golf courses in the nation, Taconic is a public course that accommodates residents and visitors alike. Designed in 1927, the course continues to feel relevant despite its age, and the layout is wildly entertaining for groups of golfers.
The layout of the course is perhaps a bit shorter than most modern courses, but that shouldn’t fool you into believing that Taconic is a pushover. This course will challenge you with tight fairways and elevated greens that will test your ability to find the right club for each shot.  That said the course is accessible for golfers of all skill levels and should provide an exceptional day of enjoyment for groups where the handicaps vary. Be forewarned, since Taconic is a college course, only so many tee times per day are available to the public. It would be wise to plan when making your arrangements to visit this historic course.
With spectacular scenery that enhances a golfer’s experience, Taconic is one of the best public courses in Massachusetts and worth the effort to seek out on your upcoming golfing vacation.
The Ranch Golf Club

In Southwick, lies our third course on the list. The Ranch Golf Club has been a golfing institution for many decades. Resting at the bottom of the Berkshire Mountains, The Ranch Golf Club provides one of the most stunningly golfing destinations in the New England area. The Ranch utilizes the natural terrain of the area to create a magnificent golfing experience where the landscape of every shot is worthy of a postcard.
With wide fairways, the course at The Ranch Golf Club is welcoming off the tee. Once you stand over your second shot, you’ll soon realize that you need to bring the best your golf game can offer. Along with needing to tackle the course’s fast greens, you’ll have to navigate the perfectly placed bunkers that will challenge your resolve and test your skillset. Don’t forget to bring your best-golfing shoes!  For large groups, The Ranch could not be a better place to enjoy a part of your golfing vacation. Not only will you enjoy the pleasant weather and beautiful views of Southwick, but the facilities at The Ranch can provide you with a satisfying meal from the clubhouse when it’s time to eat.
One of the most charming courses in all of Massachusetts, The Ranch Golf Club is a must-play for golfers looking to create a once in a lifetime golfing trip.
So that’s it. Visit one or all three. Either way, you’ll have a memorable time golfing any of these awesome courses!
