The Trustees Bring Traveling Biergartens to Greater Boston (and beyond!) as Notch Brewing’s First Outdoor Partner

Champions of the local food movement, The Trustees (the world’s first and Massachusetts’ oldest conservation and preservation nonprofit) is teaming up with Notch Brewing to bring a series of mobile beer garden events to some of its most spectacular outdoor properties in Massachusetts. Notch Brewing, known for its riverside beer garden and tap room in Salem and its critically-acclaimed ‘session’ beer, will offer its pop-up beer garden, complete with custom-designed draft beer van, outdoor seating, and authentic ceramic steinkrugs, at Trustees parks, farms and cultural sites in Greater Boston this summer. Events are family-friendly and will take place over 13 weekends, with more than 30 events planned in all.

Kicking off on May 17th at the Stevens-Coolidge Place in North Andover (also the weekend of the organization’s 5th annual historic open house day, called ‘Home Sweet Home’), this event series is inspired by the increasingly popular open-air European biergarten experience, and will offer a relaxing and immersive atmosphere for all ages against the backdrop of pristine conservation land. Other sites include farms like Powisset Farm in Dover, Chestnut Hill Farm in Southborough, and Appleton Farms in Ipswich, parks and hiking spots like Rocky Woods in Medfield and Bird Park in Walpole, and historic sites like the Eleanor Cabot Bradley Estate in Canton, Castle Hill on the Crane Estate in Ipswich, and Fruitlands Museum in Harvard. Each stop on the Traveling Biergarten schedule will be located at a scenic spot on the Trustees host property and offer activities for all ages to highlight the site’s unique character, including live music, lawn games, scavenger hunts, and Notch’s signature Meters for Liters fun runs, as well as food and other refreshments.

Many of the biergartens will offer free admission, though some of the events they complement, like the popular Father’s Day Bluegrass BBQ at Powisset Farm in June, will have an entry fee and require pre-registration.
