Massachusetts Aces School Vacation Week
School vacation week is here, and that means hours of fun, relaxation and travel for kids, parents, and grandparents.  Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism has dozens of great School Vacation Week ideas for family fun all across the Commonwealth. And below, we’ve highlighted six special events to check out.
STATEWIDE ACTIVITIES
The Mass Department of Conservation & Recreation (DCR) has organized over 70 Free Family Friendly Programs throughout the state’s park system, ranging from outdoor hikes, crafts for kids, history lessons, animal detective hikes and trailside campfire, games and stories.

Children’s Winter Festival
Boston Common
A free, fun day for children.  Attractions include Snowzilla, a three-story-high inflatable snow tube slide, and Snow Globe Live!, a 15 foot tall snow globe which you can step inside for a winter wonderland photo.  Plus, a week-long winter camp at Boston Common Frog Pond with free skating and rentals for all ages, Feb 15-19, sponsored by Highland Foundation.

A fun-week of free activities kicks off on Monday with Project Next Generation, where children learn about public speaking, debates and how to run a campaign.  Also, check out the poetry contest for 5th and 6th graders, and ongoing activity tables for coloring and scavenger hunts.

EcoTarium
Worcester
Tons of fun, educational activities at the EcoTarium, which is dedicated to the study of science and nature.  Topics include paper snowflakes, cardboard rockets, how animals stay warm in winter, and identifying tracks in the snow.  Most events are free with admission to the museum.
NORTH OF BOSTON/MERRIMACK VALLEY

Lowell Kids Week
Downtown Lowell
Over two dozen community organizations, museums, arts centers and businesses have teamed up to provide continuous activities for school vacation week.  Activities range from free movies and storytelling to ice skating, bingo with your grandparents, weaving workshops and winter scavenger hunts.

Enjoy a day filled with hands-on activities, craft demonstrations, new exhibitions and fun.   Among the activities: Tour Tiny Art Cabins; Celebrate Black History Month; Decorate a Bird house; toothpick building craft and storytelling with folksinger Tim Van Egmond.

Yankee Candle is a school vacation destination!  Many of the activities are free, such as building your own lego village, meeting your favorite movie characters, sing-alongs, face painting, balloon sculpting and magic shows.
