Foliage is one of the best things about fall.

And this year, there’s no better way to keep track of the scenery in Massachusetts than #MAinstafoliage (massvacation.com/fall).
In a nutshell, #MAinstafoliage is an interactive, real-time snapshot of the foliage conditions all around Massachusetts, provided by our fans, followers, residents and visitors who see it up close.
The way that #MAinstafoliage works is simple: every day, throughout September and October, we’re asking folks on Twitter and Instagram to use the hashtag #MAinstafoliage when they take photos of local foliage.
As they do, massvacation.com/fall will pull in each of the #MAinstafoliage images, creating a dazzling photo stream that shows in-the-moment foliage conditions:

Conveniently, the #MAinstafoliage website supplies a handy foliage map, too, which allows visitors to view the most recent autumn photos by region, as well as sort the images by day:

And that’s not all! Each week, starting with this one, we’ll also be picking one winner, who will have a photo featured on the Visit Massachusetts Facebook page, Visit MA Instagram account and massvacation.com/fall; the photo will stay up on our website until we pick a new winner.
To recap, here’s how it all works:
1. Post a sweet foliage photo to either Twitter or Instagram
2. Include #MAinstafoliage within your sweet photo’s caption or tweet
3. Tell us where you took the photo by including a regional hashtag:

  • #GreaterBoston
  • #NorthofBoston
  • #SouthofBoston
  • #CapeAndIslands
  • #CentralMass
  • #WesternMass

4. Keep an eye on massvacation.com/fall to peep where the best foliage is throughout fall
If Twitter and Instagram aren’t really your thing, no problem at all. We’ll still be sharing spectacular foliage photos from our Facebook fans, of course, so feel free to post one to our wall and give us a look!
If foliage photos aren’t really your thing in general, massvacation.com/fall has plenty of other practical autumn info, including fall events and activities and lovely driving routes.
And, if you’re looking for a little inspiration before peak foliage arrives and the colors appear in full force, why not take a spin through our four winners from last year?
