There’s never a bad time for a good meal. And while Dine Out Boston has recently come to a close, we’ve still got food on our minds.
The summer of 2013 saw a continuing string of new restaurant openings across the Greater Boston area. Before the balmy weather arrives again and there’s a whole new batch of debuts, we’d like to share a few places that made a splash and have established themselves as our favorites since they opened for business.
M.C. Spiedo – 606 Congress St., Boston, MA 02210
This spot was opened up by two well-known chefs from Maine and Boston is better for their migration. After maintaining Arrows in Ogunquit, Maine for many a year, Mark Gaier and Clark Frasier have brought their tribute to Italian Renaissance Food to Boston. Enjoy a beautiful ambiance and robust, rustic, well executed fare. Call them at 617-476-5606.

Blazing Paddles 82 Lansdowne St., Boston, MA 02215
In Boston, Ping-Pong isn’t just for Olympians. Blazing Paddles at Game On!, Patrick Lyons’ newest Fenway venture, combines a restaurant and entertainment concept in the renovated lower level of Game On. The result is an establishment that’s equal parts neighborhood hangout and game day destination. For those who have never been, the restaurant and bar are located underneath the ballpark, providing quite the view and atmosphere during baseball season! Reach them at 617-351-7001.
Chopps American Grill – 1 Burlington Mall Road in Burlington, MA 0183
The name says it all with Chopps, which features lunch and dinner menus that offer everything from regional classics (Clam Chowder) to timeless favorites (Filet Mignon). The restaurant, which is a part of the nearby Marriott Hotel, is a joint venture between Chef Daniel Bruce, Boston Harbor Hotel, Chef David Verdo and the Marriott Burlington’s John Costello. El Centro Dos – 236 Washington St., Brookline, MA 02445
The second El Centro from Allan Rodriguez, whose tiny South End outlet is always packed, can be found in Brookline, where hungry visitors can also dig into some of the city’s best guacamole. The restaurant’s artifacts and décor add an authentic ambiance, something that underscores the many delicious dishes that offered by the menu. Pier 6 Charlestown Navy Yard, Charlestown, MA 02129

This waterfront restaurant occupies prime real estate, giving patrons the opportunity to dine with something to see. After purchasing the space, partners Sal Boscarino and Charlie Larner rebuilt and redesigned the physical structure with contemporary nautical flair. Now that the renovations are complete, diners can take in the city and harbor views while exploring Chef Greg Reeves’ creative menu. Give Pier 6 a ring at 617-337-0054.

Not so new, but Orinoco in the South End did make a splash with us recently, thanks to a delicious brunch menu. This casual Venezuelan restaurant (with sites in Harvard Square and Brookline, as well), offers a neighborhood experience modeled after roadside restaurants in South America. Enjoy South American wines, beers and tropical fruit beverages, along with dishes like the Pernil Galipan pork sandwich, Pa’los Gringos, Venezuelan-style scrambled eggs, yucca hash, Chorizo and plain arepas. A new brasserie and bar in Harvard Square, this restaurant comes from the owners of the South End’s Beehive, live music and all! The menu offerings are quite diverse, ranging from land to sea and then back again – with additional comfort items, such as Braised Beef Brisket, Oricchiette Pasta with Broccoli Rabe Pesto & Sausage, and Eggplant Parm.
