The Cape Cod Baseball League has a long, storied history as a pathway for the best talent on its way to Major League Baseball. This year, the connection between the Cape League and Major Leagues is even stronger than usual!

Not only are John Farrell and Mike Matheny, the managers of the Red Sox and Cardinals, both alumni of the summer league, but there are also a number of players and members of both rosters who spent time playing ball on the Cape before they appeared this October on baseball’s biggest stage.
Here’s a rundown of the Cape Cod League alums taking part in the 2013 World Series:
John Farrell, Boston Red Sox Manager: pitched for the Hyannis Mets, now the Hyannis Harbor Hawks, in 1982.
Brian Butterfield, Boston Red Sox Third-Base Coach: suited up and played for Wareham in 1976.
Jacoby Ellsbury, Boston Red Sox Centerfielder: played for the Falmouth Commodores in 2004.
David Ross, Boston Red Sox Catcher: caught for the Brewster Whitecaps in 1996.
Brandon Workman, Boston Red Sox Pitcher: pitched for the Wareham Gatemen in 2008 and 2009.
Mike Matheny, St. Louis Cardinals Manager: caught for the Cotuit Ketleers in 1989.
Derek Lilliquist, St. Louis Cardinals Pitching Mentor: pitched for Cotuit in 1986 and 1987.
John Axford, St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher: pitched for Hyannis in 2002 and Cotuit in 2003.
Randy Choate, St. Louis Cardinals Pitcher: pitched for Hyannis in 1996.

Folks outside the Boston area need not worry, either, as there are also plenty of other spots spread around the state that are ideal for taking in Game 5.
Where will you be watching the game tonight? Let us know in the comments!
