Earlier this summer, the folks at TripAdvisor announced their editor’s picks for the 10 quirkiest accommodations across the U.S.— a collection of hotels and B&B’s considered to be far-out, funky, and truly unique experiences — and we were delighted to see that not one, but two Massachusetts properties made the list.
So, in true MassFinds fashion, we thought we’d take a deeper dive into what each of these unique properties have to offer!
Green Turtle Floating Bed and Breakfast — Boston, MA
Located along Boston’s Charlestown Navy Yard, a unique location in and of itself, the Green Turtle Floating Bed and Breakfast is exactly that: a house boat that floats the lap of luxury out into Boston’s Harbor. For an idea of how this comes to life, check out these traveler photos, courtesy of the Green Turtle’s TripAdvisor page.
Visitors can choose from three vessels at the Green Turtle, the first of which is a houseboat with separate suites, and the second and third vessels are private yachts. Also, being positioned right on the water, the B&B offers easy access to all that Boston has to offer.
Surely, the rooms offer all of today’s modern amenities, complete with in-room kitchenettes, private bathrooms and Wi-Fi. To take a look around, click here.

Starlight Llama Bed and Breakfast — Florence, MA
You can find the Starlight Llama B&B located in the Florence section of Northampton, offering a relaxing, unplugged spot perfect for a getaway, as well as the chance to get familiar with a number of farm animals, including emus, peacocks and llamas.
Once part of a 700-acre dairy farm, Starlight provides sprawling grounds ideal for hiking, biking, walking, snowshoeing and any number of other outdoor pursuits. Although Starlight feels quite removed, it’s also just a short distance from a variety of Northampton attractions, including parks and museums; Starlight is also a sustainability standout, powering itself entirely by solar energy.

While these unique B&Bs were the most recently awarded, this summer has seen a number of other locally earned accolades!
U.S. News Travel recognized Fort Hill Bed and Breakfast, which is located in Eastham, MA as one of the most unique bed and breakfasts across America.
Family Vacation Critic named Skaket Beach in Orleans, MA as one of 10 Best Beaches for Families in 2013.
USA Today named Route 6A along Cape Cod as one the 10 most beautiful coast drives across North America.
Undoubtedly, Massachusetts is full of uniqueness. Where’s the most quirky spot you’ve ever stayed? Tell us in the comments!
